Or does 'faith in your wife' require that trusting her be nonsense? Are your 'faithful friends' simply unable to determine if you are a good pal? It is quite often that the strong belief in what one considers their "truth" is enough for them to be irrational towards others whose views are not the same. His comment, which you've taken out of context, was to illustrate the fact that the mindset of many fundamentalist Christians is such that "if you don't believe in the God I believe in, you deserve to die".
