ID = Panentheism

You can now watch Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed online at Netflix. As of this writing, I have watched 36 minutes of this movie. So far, it is better than expected. It is entertaining and provocative. However, it is also not as good as I would like it to be. Granted that I have watched less than half of this movie, what it lacks is evidence for intelligent design and against evolution.

If you step back and approach the question of the possibility of a cosmic designer outside of any religious perspective, whether pro or con, then you have to ask how anything can create something out of nothing. Since this is an illogical presupposition, we are left with a conclusion that the only way anything could have caused what we now experience as reality is for that thing to also be part and parcel of reality. In other words, accepting the possiblity of a cosmic creator(s) is tantamount to being a panentheist.

Creationists are now attacking neuroscience. Consciousness continues to elude us. However, this is only because we do not yet completely understand the human brain. And precisely for that reason, we cannot ascribe the emergence of consciousness to Cartesian dualism, much less to the existence of souls. Not again. We are past that. How many angels can you fit on the head of a pin? Nobody cares anymore, because it is irrelevant to our lives and a silly question in the first place.

Watch the Flaw

From religulousmovie.net:

With religious fanatics like George Bush and Osama bin Laden now taking over the world, it seemed to me in recent years that this issue—this cause of debunking the man behind the curtain—needed to have a larger, more insistent and focused forum than late night television. I wanted to make a documentary, and I wanted it to be funny. In fact, since there is nothing more ridiculous than the ancient mythological stories that live on as today’s religions, this movie would try to be a real knee slapper. Unless, of course, you’re religious, then you might not like it.
